Dr. Patricia Horsham: Paediatrician

Dr. Patricia Horsham, also known as the "Sherlock Holmes of Ontario" has combined law with her first love, medicine, to become an expert witness in more than 40 child abuse cases in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Texas.

Dr. Horsham'ssecond career was an offshoot of the first.Her interest in the law developed partly by seeing abused children visit herhospital emergency room and the perpetrators getting away with it.

Originally from Trinidad, Dr. Horsham has practised medicine as an emergency paediatric doctor at theChildren's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa for the last 25 years.During her prestigious career, Dr. Horshamwas appointed as the University of Ottawa representative to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.She is also a member of the University of Ottawa's advisory Board, Medical Faculty, and the International Association of Child Abuse and Neglect.

A foremost authority on child abuse and child sexual abuse, Dr. Horsham has written extensively on shaken baby syndrome, as well as authoring a textbook on the subject, which is still widely used.She has lectured in Canada and the West Indies.
