Dr. Gail Rock: Hematologist

Dr. Gail Rock received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1966 followed by two years of NRC Fellowship in the Biophysics Department of the National Research Council and two years of Postdoctoral Training on an MRC Fellowship.Sheobtained her MD from Ottawa University and her FRCP in Hematopathology from the University of Toronto.

She was the Medical Director of the Ottawa Centre of the Canadian Red Cross for close to fifteen years during which time she developed local and national programs in apheresis and carried out many studies on blood and blood components.

She has served as a Consultant to theDepartment of Agriculture, to the Office of the Surgeon General of Canada, and the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.She has been a Special Advisor for Hospital Blood Establishments to the Bureau of Biologics, Health Canada and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Transfusion Science, Vice-President of the Canadian Hematology Society and Chair of the Canadian Apheresis Group.

She is a Professor of Pathology, Clinical Associate Professor - Department of Medicine, with cross-appointment to the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology and a faculty member of the Graduate School - University of Ottawa.

Her publications include 152 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 49 review articles and/or chapters in books andshe has edited several books including Quality Assurance in Transfusion Medicine (Volumes 1 and 2) and Apheresis.
